Plaine Products - The Story of a Green Packaging Revolution!

In May we were proud to add Plaine Products to our collection of plastic free bathroom haircare and skincare products. This company, founded by 2 sisters Lindsey and Alison, started an eco-friendly packaging revolution. We are very excited to support them through our partnership!

Let's shine a light on the 3 reasons why Fillgood and Plaine Products are such a great combination to reduce single use plastics in your house. And learn more about this company in an interview with Lindsey Delaplaine!

3 REASONS TO REFILL YOUR BOTTLES WITH PLAINE PRODUCTS AND FILLGOOD

1/ ZERO PLASTIC

For both companies, reducing plastic waste is an absolute priority. Plaine Products has opted for refillable aluminum bottles to package their products. The pumps are in plastic, it’s true, but they are not disposable. Hold on to them when your bottles are empty, order refills and reuse your pumps.

That’s not it: when we receive our shipments from Plaine Products, the bottles are free of any plastic packaging. And when we deliver to your door, there’s no disposable plastic either, not even a small plastic wrapper around the caps!

These products and the delivery system associated are a perfect example that designing and distributing plastic-free products is completely possible when you think outside the box!

2/ ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS

Caring about our environment is not just focusing on reducing plastic waste. The quality of the products we are offering at Fillgood is just as important. That’s another reason why we chose to work with Alison and Lindsey. They make non toxic products with nature’s most nutrient- and vitamin-rich plants, minerals, and renewable sources. They are blended and manufactured with care in Florida.

  • Free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates and palm oil
  • Vegan, non GMO ingredients

3/ REFILLING MADE EASY

At Fillgood and Plaine Products, we understand that life can be busy and shopping in bulk stores is not always a possibility. That’s why both companies have at heart to make refilling bottles as easy as possible.

This is how it works: when you run out of Plaine Products shampoo, order a refill on Fillgood’s website and leave out your empties on delivery day. We’ll deliver your refills, collect your empty aluminum bottles and ship them back to Plaine Products where they will be cleaned, sanitized and refilled.

No need for you to ask for a shipping label online, make your package and go to the post office: we’ll do all this for you! It’s even more efficient since we ship 24 empty bottles at once.

This double refill loop is such an efficient way to reduce disposable packaging but also the overall environmental impact of buying something as simple as a shampoo bottle.

Check out this graphic: we tried to clearly show how a refillable Plaine Products shampoo bottle will travel way less than a regular “recyclable” plastic shampoo bottle (if it ever gets recycled...) !

INTERVIEW WITH LINDSEY DELAPLAINE, CO-FOUNDER OF PLAINE PRODUCTS

We interviewed Lindsey to learn more about her mission and the reasons that led her to start this amazing company.

What was your plastic pollution eye opening moment?

"For 10 years I lived in The Bahamas doing environment education work. While I loved living there, it wasn’t all rum drinks on the beach. On a small island there’s no first world infrastructure to insulate you from the piles of plastic we are creating. You see plastic bags, bottles and flip flops on the beaches, in the water, spilling out of the landfills, along the side of the road. There’s even a place so full of plastic it’s called Junk Beach. The message that plastic lasts forever, no matter how long we use it, is much more obvious living there than it is here."

Why did you decide to start Plaine Products? Did you have the idea with Alison?

"I wanted to start using less plastic in my life. I started taking action: carrying a reusable water bottle, reusable grocery bags, skipping the straw at restaurants and bars. I looked for other ways to use less plastic. But I couldn’t figure out how to get those plastic bottles out of my shower. I couldn’t find any alternatives that worked for me and my hair.

As we contemplated a move back to the States, I realized that I might be able to solve my own problem. Even better, I might be able to help other people use less plastic in their lives. I pulled in my sister, Alison Webster, who has a design degree and strong opinions about the quality of her products. We came up with the name Plaine Products as a tribute to our shared maiden name, Delaplaine, as well as a sign that we were working towards a more basic system of reuse - as opposed to the disposable plastic that’s become so ubiquitous today. Together we spent two years working hard to making it easier for people to get quality products without having to buy single-use plastic bottles."

What’s the first change you’d recommend to a zero waste beginner?

"Pick one aspect of your life and start there. Don’t try to do everything at once and don’t try to do it perfectly. Progress is more important than perfection when it comes to single use plastic."

Do you plan to add new products or new scents soon?

"We just added a face wash and face moisturizer that we’re really excited about. We’ll also be expanding our line this fall to add citrus lavender body wash and body lotion!"
