Assistant Store Manager - Berkeley, CA

Fillgood is on a mission to reduce plastic waste. Started in 2017 as the 1st Bay Area Refill Service, we help people lead a Zero Waste and Plastic Free life. 

We have a storefront on the busy Solano avenue in Berkeley and a delivery service available in more than 20 cities around the Bay Area. We are looking for a new Assistant Store Manager to join our team of Zero Waste enthusiasts.


The Assistant Store Manager works with the store manager to coordinate retail store operations and ensure retail associates meet store schedules and objectives. 

We are looking for a responsible Assistant Manager to help organize and run our retail store and fill in for the Store Manager when needed. Your job will be highly important in ensuring the retail associates team meets its goals of efficiency and customer satisfaction. 

Since we are a small team, the assistant store manager also participates in store sales by assisting customers with refills and purchases, like the retail associates.

Assistant Store Manager responsibilities include training sales associates, monitoring inventory, coordinating bulk return shipments and maintaining a clean environment. You will also analyze consumer behavior and gather feedback to ensure our store meets and exceeds client expectations.

The ideal candidate will have retail manager skills, be very organized, enjoy solving problems and is passionate about everyday solutions to reduce waste.

Ultimately, the duties of the Assistant Manager are to make sure our store operates effectively, and that we keep our customers happy.


  • Coordinate daily customer service operations (e.g. sales processes, orders and payments)
  • Monitor store inventory 
  • Implement occasional store events organized by the store manager (special promotions, pop-up with other businesses, etc)
  • Evaluate employee performance and identify hiring and training needs
  • Supervise and motivate staff to perform their best
  • Coach and support new and existing Retail Associates
  • Suggest sales training techniques
  • Gather feedback from customers and report it to the Store Manager
  • Stay up to date on zero waste trends, brands and products 
  • Make sure all employees adhere to company’s policies and guidelines
  • Act as our store’s representative and set an example for our staff
  • Participate in sales and customers assistance
  • Driving sales through engagement of customers and sharing product knowledge.
  • Responding to customers' questions related to our mission, our products or zero waste in general.


Job Type: Full-time, 40 hours/ week

Work location: 1579A Solano ave, Berkeley

Must be available on the weekends (Saturdays or Sundays)

Hourly Rate: $22/h
